The independant licensees of this business provide a service that is needed in most locations. Units are sited in major shopping malls and centers. This company was founded in 1945 and had multiple corporate-run locations in 6 states. About 10 years ago, the company sold its non-local locations and turned the remaining units into operator-run licensed locations. The company leases retail spaces and pays the rent to the owners or property managment companies. The leases contain clauses allowing the company to place indivudual operator/licensees in each location. The company charges a fixed weekly licensing fee to the operator. The difference between the licensing fees and the rent is gross profit. There are currently about a dozen locations, yielding a gross profit of over $450K annually. There is almost no overhead in this model - you need only a small office and and an administratiave assistant. This model can be expanded without restriction. As the company has been in business for over 60 years, and has a long track record with many of the areas' leading property managment companies, new location opportunities are often brought to the company's attention. The current owner, however, has been thinking of retiring and has not actively pursued expansion; new ownership could easily scale the business model and grow exponentially.
