Business Description
Schofield s Market originally opened over 50 years ago in the small agriculture community of Sugar City three miles north of Rexburg. In 1977, the 100 by 75 (7,500 SF) main street access property was rebuilt after the Teton Dam Flood using commercial tilt up concrete walls and heavy duty rafters. In 1992, the seller bought the business which has continued to be affiliated with Associated Food Stores to help diversify personal investments. A family member has always managed and operated the store. Over the years, Schofields has enjoyed strong success by meeting the needs of area farmers, providing onsite butcher Shop, fresh produce, and all that you would expect from the City s Market Store. The store still cuts selected meat products but doesn t have an on site Bakery. Schofields does not have the capacity or check book to compete with the big box stores buying power but has never lost focus on providing for its customer base. The store has been modernized with Point-of-Sale software, 3 Bar Code registers and scanners with auto pay access, and has worked with consultants from Associated to stage products. The store is very clean and efficient, operating with very low maintenance. The ideal location has room to expand if a new Buyer has an interest in doing so.
About the Business
Market Outlook/Competition:
Small home based grocery stores can only be successful with an educated and trained owner manager. The business over the last 20 years has been successful in meeting the criteria of the Seller and supporting family. The core of the sale price is asset based. Schofields has accounts with several of the area churches, schools, and the city. In this modern age, the business still prides itself on knowing the customer and in fact having an in-house charge for farmers. Schofields does not compete head on with the Big Box stores; there is not a super Wal-Mart, Costco, or Sam s Club within 50 miles, but because of its size it competes for products that sell and products that customers want. They are not big enough to be all things but are big enough to care for their customers.
