Shawn started his first retail business in 1986 at the age of 23. The business was an immediate success and he opened his second location a year later. He sold both businesses in 1989 and opened a sports-theme restaurant with the profits. In June of 1993, he sold the restaurant and later that year founded Sanborn and Company, Inc.

Shawn has successfully sold a wide variety of businesses from quick service to fine dining restaurants, neighborhood grills to nightclubs. He has assisted independent operators and national companies in site selection, leasing and real estate acquisitions. Shawn is an instructor for the International Business Brokers Association and teaches restaurant sales and valuation classes. He is a nationally recognized industry expert and has served as an expert witness in restaurant and bar business valuation and real estate related court cases.

Shawns success as a restaurant broker has enabled him to expand the specialty to other hospitality and liquor businesses. He has sold over $10,000,000 in hotel properties and numerous liquor store businesses throughout Colorado.

Mark Valente

Mark joined Sanborn and Company in 2003 after working for a large retail real estate firm here in Denver. Mark brings over 30 years of experience in the restaurant industry starting in 1964 when his family opened Valentes Italian Restaurant. In 1983, he opened Marcs Restaurant, which quickly became a high volume, notable, upscale dining facility in the Denver Metro area.

As a native of Colorado and past Chairman of the Colorado Restaurant Association (CRA), Mark offers a unique perspective on the restaurant market in this area. He was awarded the CRAs Distinguished Service Award in 1995. In his many years as a member, he has served on every committee including the Executive Committee, which is responsible for developing policy and solutions to problems faced by the restaurant industry. His exposure to the challenges and opportunities faced by the industry as a restaurateur as well his capacity as a CRA board member (since 1987), provided the basis for the transition into his current role as a commercial real estate broker, specializing in the sale, acquisition, and leasing of restaurant properties. Mark is also a member of the Denver Metropolitan Commercial Association of REALTORS. (DMCAR) as well as the Colorado Association of Business Intermediaries (CABI).

Mark attended Regis Jesuit High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Santa Clara. He has served as President of the University of Santa Clara Alumni Association and as a board member of the West Chamber (serving Jefferson County). Mark is an avid golfer and is a past member of the board of the Lakewood Country Club and a currently sits on the board of the Colorado Golf Association Hall of Fame.

Mark joined Sanborn and Company in 2005 after nearly 20 years of practicing law in Colorado. As a principal in a local law firm for nine years, Mark understands the challenges business owners face in building and sustaining a successful enterprise. In addition to his own business, Mark has assisted others in selling and buying businesses and representing them in real estate sales, acquisition and leasing. His clients and customers have benefited from his business and legal experience in many ways.

Mark attended the University of Colorado andd attended the University Of Denver College Of Law receiving his J.D. He is licensed to practice law before all Colorado courts and the United States District Court for the District of Colorado.

Mark is member of the Denver Metropolitan Commercial Association of BROKERS. (DMCAB), the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA) where he has earned his Certified Business Intermediary as well as the Colorado Association of Business Intermediaries (CABI).
