Broker Biography

Introduction

When seeking the best M&A representation, “Past Success is the Best Predictor of Future Performance”.
Over the last 15 years Matt Slappey has demonstrated what hard work, perseverance, and great client relationships can accomplish. Matt has been recognized for the following:
The #1 producing Business Brokerage office in the United States out of over 200 offices included in the rankings.
Awarded “Top Five” Business Broker in Georgia Association of Business Brokers for nine consecutive years and “Top Producer” for multiple years
Ranked “Top Ten Percent Nationally” in my previous national broker franchise for each of the years 2010-2017
President – Georgia Association of Business Brokers
Matt has a wide array of experience on transactions typically in the $1-20 Million EBITDA range (Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization).
Regardless of the size of the transaction, the same issues are important to business sellers. A sample of these include the value of their company, confidentiality during a transaction, understanding the tax issues of selling a company (because Matt believes the amount of money you keep is more important than the sale price of the company), ensuring appropriate legal representation so that there are no surprises after the sale, and many other important issues.
Matt has been involved with complicated business transfers such as his representation of a company involved in a three-way merger that results in a new combined company with $250MM in revenue. The new combined company is focused on creating a national footprint in their Information Technology market and seeks a public offering in the near future. At the same time, straightforward business sales to strategic buyers and private equity groups are the mainstay of his practice.
Matt represents sellers of privately held companies and he also represents individuals in their endeavor to purchase medium sized companies. On the more advanced end of the spectrum, he has several years of experience representing private equity buyers pursuing acquisitions for growth.
Matt has owned and operated companies, so he understands the hard details of business including issues with insurance, staffing, financial statements and leadership succession planning.
As a Georgia native, Matt delivers a superior level of local marketplace knowledge. Matt’s attributes of maturity, respect, and honor were developed and honed during seven years as an officer in the U.S. Army. His strong technical skills allowed him to obtain the rare combination of duties as both a military intelligence officer and a pilot with the dual qualifications for both rotary and fixed wing aircraft.

Services Provided

I help business owners understand the probable value of their companies. I work to ensure that the customers, competitors and employees do not know that a sale process is taking place until the owner decides it is time to share the news.
I offer straight-shooting advice about your business and what a potential buyer will need to know and will expect from the seller.
We will create a value range for the business, build a 10-60 page "confidential memorandum" and we will ensure that no buyer sees that memorandum unless they have signed a non-disclosure agreement.
We are not real estate agents that work part-time selling companies. The value and sale of business is all that we do on a day to day basis.
I typically represent 1st or 2nd generations business owners who have taken the business as far as they can take it and are ready to exit the business.
