Our extensive business ownership history and passionate entrepreneurial spirit enable us to view the sale of a business through the eyes of both buyer and seller.
John P. Kelly started his business career with a paper route to earn some money. Thinking outside the box, he used an auction process to sell it for three times what he paid for it.
He started a moving and storage company in Milwaukee with his best friend from college, whom he bought out after the first year. That second business was sold after seven years to fulfill John’s dream of working with his father in Oconto, Wisconsin, where his dad who owned Bond Pickle Company.
After purchasing the business from his family, John grew the company from $3 million to $10 million in sales by building a strong team. The team that became Kelly Pickle Company developed the industry-leading banana pepper ring that remains a popular sandwich topping at Subway restaurants. As a 3rd generation pickle producer, the toughest personal and business decision in his career was selling his family-owned pickle company to the industry leader after 11 years of developing and leading his team.

Buying a Business?
Are you looking to grow your business through acquisition? Tired of being an employee and ready to be an owner? Think you’re ready for a lifestyle change? If you answered “Yes!” you are ready for a sit-down meeting with Kelly Business Advisors. Our confidential session will explore what type and size of businesses are best suited for you. We will discuss how we can help you find value and negotiate for the purchase of your business. Our experience helps you analyze all aspects of potential acquisitions and evaluate whether it’s a good fit for what you want to do.
Kelly’s Estimate of Value (EOV), helps you with your own expectations on what your business may sell for in today’s market with different buyer types and structures. The value of your business will likely vary if you sell to a competitor, a family member, an owner operator, your employees, an investor, or a private equity group. While our EOV cannot be used for tax matters or litigation, they are completed by an experienced business broker with a current CBI designation from the International Business Brokers Association. If you choose not to go to market, with our EOV you will likely pick up a “nugget” that will help you build your business to be a stronger and more valuable asset.
