Business Description
I’m the owner operator of Shear Perfection for more than 40 years. This has been a wonderful business for me and for my sister before me who established the business in 1977. I love this business which has given me everything. I arrived in this country at age 18 with nothing but a few cloths. I went to Berkeley Adult school for 9 months to learn English and then to Hayward Beauty School to get my cosmetology license. I went to work for my sister at Shear Perfection. Eventually I bought the business from her when she opened another salon.

We have a wonderful location less than a block from UC in a pedestrian mall which is a short cut between Durant Avenue and UC. Hundreds of University people stream past our door every day. Our clients are wonderful, smart, high-class people: undergraduate and graduate students, professors, UC administrators, and other community people like medical doctors, lawyers, and many more. Sometimes we have famous customers, or experts who we see interviewed on TV. I never went to college but I have learned so much from my clients. I love them, and they love Shear Perfection, giving us near 5 star ratings on Yelp and Google Reviews, the highest ratings in this area.

I am reluctantly retiring because at my age it is increasingly physically difficult to do the job and because I have accumulated a substantial 401k retirement fund so I am free to quit. I have been coping with increasing age over the last few years by simplifying the services I offer (no shampoo or hair color because it is hard on the back), reducing hours, and reserving some time during the work day to rest. Although there are three stations, each with its own shampoo bowl, I simplify by not having any employees.

My Schedule C gross income over the last three years is around $130,000 each year, and the net is about 80 to 84,000 each year. This is a fraction of the potential if three successful hairdressers were working full time. The shop could eventually accommodate more than three full time hairdressers if we were open longer hours. We are currently open 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Closed Sunday and Monday.

To be sucessful here a buyer will need to have very good hair skills, and be an attractive person who can listen and interact well with clients. (Like a good bartender or psychologist, a good hairdresser knows when to shut up, be sympathetic, and let the client unburden themselves.)

I have not set a price. I am waiting to see what the right buyer would be willing to pay. What would this business be worth to you?
