Business Description
Tax practice for sale in Folsom, CA. This is a complete sale of the tax practice side of the business; however, the Seller intends to retain the bookkeeping and payroll clients. The Seller and spouse are motivated to find a qualified successor who can provide clients with a reliable replacement and support a smooth transition. The Sellers are available to assist with transition after the sale, but only the spouse will consider working on a part-time or limited basis after closing.

The practice is primarily a tax practice serving approximately 445 individual tax clients with an average fee of $352, along with 15 entity clients with an average fee of $535. The client base consists of long-term clients who are accustomed to local service. Clients are generally billed upon completion, with many returns charged in the $350 to $425 range. Approximately 75% of clients prefer to come in for an appointment, while 15% drop off their documents, 5% mail in their information, and 5% submit everything electronically.

Total 2025 cash basis revenue was $255,121, including bookkeeping revenue that is not included in the sale. After excluding the bookkeeping revenue retained by the Seller, projected 2026 revenue included in the sale is estimated at $165,000. Tax services revenue through May 13, 2026 was approximately $147,557, with approximately 50 extensions still expected to be completed.

The Seller has no employees who are expected to remain after the sale. During the current tax season, the Seller’s spouse completed tax return preparation and the Seller reviewed returns. Practice support currently includes one family member who provides administrative assistance but is not expected to stay after the sale, along with a seasonal administrative assistant who changes from year to year. The Buyer should be prepared to assume client communication, tax preparation, review, and administrative responsibilities immediately after closing.

The current office is located in a co-working office space in Folsom, with the service agreement running through December 31, 2026. The practice can likely be relocated within Folsom, El Dorado Hills, or Rancho Cordova; however, a local presence is recommended because many clients are accustomed to local service, including document drop-off and in-person appointments, and may want to meet the successor in person.
