Iconic Stowe, VT deli, bakery and specialty food retailer
Business Description
Stowe is a small mountain town, a community of choice with a global reputation. As a four season destination, it’s unparalleled natural beauty and charming small town vibe invite everyone from the second homeowner whose family has called Stowe “home” for more than a generation to the serious outdoors person (eg fishing, gravel riding, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, road biking, skiing) to the casual visitor aspiring to a first glimpse of our iconic fall foliage. Within Vermont, Stowe enjoys a level of economic vitality that sets it apart.
Serving Stowe since 1968, Edelweiss Mountain Deli in its current iteration has successfully repositioned itself as an authentic advocate for the small town Vermont experience, the community of Stowe, our local farmers and producers, and our customers. It also enjoys a reputation within the competitive skiing world as the “official headquarters of the ski world when in Stowe.”
Our goal is to offer an experience that is truly differentiated. While there is no finish line in that regard, we often say that we have the good fortune of having the best customers supported by the best staff in the business. We are most proud of our commitment to local and quality.
From a quality perspective, Edelweiss was consistently recognized from 2019 - 2025 as a Vermont Fresh Network “Gold Barn” member, one of 57 members statewide who spent at least 35% of annual food budget with local partners on local food and products. While Vermont Fresh Network went on hiatus in 2025, Edelweiss continues to far exceed the Gold Barn criteria in its work to both advocate for and support local partners, be they farmers or producers, and bring the exceptional quality inherent in Vermont local to our customer experience.
This is a profitable, thriving business looking for its next owner to be a present, dedicated community member as evidenced by a commitment to the owner-operator model and active advocacy for the Stowe community.

- Facilities & Assets
- The sale includes both the operating business / inventory and the real estate, located on the busiest corridor in Stowe. During sellers’ tenure, the entire physical infrastructure (internal and external) has been rebuilt. The real estate includes a 6,600sf mixed use building (with one of a kind curb cut in Stowe) with the first floor commercial space housing the business and the second floor housing two residential apartments. The larger of the two apartments underwent a complete renovation in 2018. The heating and cooling systems, a resurfaced parking lot and beautiful 15’x110’ stone patio are also new. The commissioned works of 20 Vermont artists adorn both the interior and exterior of the building. For the business, every piece of equipment has either been newly purchased or rebuilt. Extensive interior renovation, including state of art deli / kitchen flooring, greatly increased efficiency. A new Koehler generator, installed in 2024, powers entire building, adding piece of mind.

- Market Outlook / Competition
- Stowe is a small community that, in terms of reputation and economic vitality, punches far above its weight. Easily accessible, it is one of the most iconic mountain towns in the world, boasting a local / second home owner demographic that makes it local, global, creative and extremely active. Outdoor / recreation opportunities are unparalleled. The neighboring towns of Morrisville and Waterbury are also economically and socially vibrant communities and the state’s largest city, Burlington, is an easy 45 minute drive (airport, University of Vermont, Lake Champlain).
Edelweiss is, for all intents and purposes, Stowe’s largest to-go restaurant and bakery with specialty / craft food and beverage retail complementing our local, scratch-prepared foods. Our current business model is built on high quality offerings at affordable prices. Our customer experience is a key differentiator. While other small businesses compete within various categories, there are no direct competitors. - Opportunities for Growth
- The most promising growth opportunity is catering. There is tremendous opportunity for a high quality, affordable option. Additionally, catering leverages the team’s core culinary strengths.
Second, expanding work with local property managers, concierges and lodging businesses to supply prepared meals, bakery welcome boxes and curated, locally sourced Vermont food and beverage gift boxes.
Third, income derived from residential apartment rentals can be as much as tripled as the large, newly renovated apartment has not historically been rented.
Finally, category growth (eg. wine, charcuterie etc) offers organic top line growth.
