Greenwood Village, CO - The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) has Awarded an Ocean Transportation Intermediary (OTI) license to the parent company of Navis Pack & Ship. The license enables Navis franchise operators to offer international ocean shipping services.
To be licensed as an OTI, a company must have an officer with at least three years experience working for an ocean freight forwarder, a non-vessel ocean common carrier (NVOCC) or an OTI. Knowing that few of its individual franchise locations could meet this standard, the Navis corporate office applied for the license and developed a published tariff and training program that enables its franchise locations to offer international ocean services in accordance with FMC regulations.
“The OTI license opens a major new market segment to Navis Pack & Ship franchise operators,” said Ben Blakeley, president and CEO of Navis. “Demand for our custom packaging expertise is strong and growing among customers who need to ship goods internationally. By offering ocean freight as well as air freight, Navis franchise operators have a significant advantage over many of their competitors.”

Navis Logistics Network has been franchising since 1984 with a retail entity, Handle With Care Packaging Store, which was founded in 1980. We specialize in packaging and shipping Fragile, Large, Awkward and Valuable items - what we call FLAV. We established Navis Pack and Ship Centers in 2001 and began to seriously franchise this concept in 2002. Navis has the same FLAV emphasis as The Packaging Store, but focuses instead on the business-to-business market. This is an uncrowded, $34 billion market expected to grow to more that $50 billion in the next four to five years. Our business model focuses on (but is not limited to) 100-200 pound items with total logistics solutions: door-to-door delivery, packaging, and full insurance coverage. It includes small residential and commercial moves. Potential customers need cost -efficient ways to ship manufactured technical, scientific, and medical equipment; computers; antiques, and fine art.
