Why springtime/summer is a great time to buy a business. So the winter thaw has begun and you have not started on your New Year resolution to buy a business. Well the warm months are a great time to buy a business. A few reasons why.

  1. Your accountant is about to have some extra time on their hands. After the April 15th deadline, they will have time to help you with your due diligence (perhaps after their vacation).
  2. Attorneys, brokers, bankers, CPAs sometimes disappear during the summer for long vacations. Your advisory team is in town now. Take advantage of that.
  3. Sellers want to vacation this summer. Spring/summer fever can motivate sellers to get real with their prices and get their summer plans solidified!
  4. Summer may be a busy time or a quiet time for the business you want to buy. Both could be good reasons to own it now.
  5. Your kids don't need your homework skills. As the school year ends, so do the sports schedules and homework loads. You have some spare time to shop and buy!
  6. Extra daylight lets you "see" a business in action and inspect the premises in the daylight.
  7. Banks are looking to get their numbers rolling above last year's pace. Therefore, they may be more aggressive in lending right now.
  8. As the economy continues to grow, so may interest rates. Get in now.
  9. Franchises want to increase their annual sales; they want to be ahead of last year like the banks. If you buy a franchise, Spring and Summer could be a good time to get a great deal.
  10. Summer is a great time to travel to train at a franchise headquarters or even outside in your new business. No snow delays or cancellations to worry about.
o I'm not saying that you can't buy a business any other times during the year, but hopes spring eternal right now. So as the crocuses grow through the thawing snow, it's time for your entrepreneurial career to blossom as well.
